Visualization While Running

What do you visualize as you run? On long runs, my mind can wander very far sometimes, but on mid-distance tempo runs, I visualize just about anything that hauls BOOTY! Do you think that Visualization is a key element in Running? Does is help you?

yes, it's totally key IMO. I visualize a victorious finish at a major race...with the Kenyans behind me. Go big or go home.

Hi Kenley! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I tend to visualize race scenarios... and finish lines in particular. That gets me moving!

I think studies show it can really pay off. That said, I am more about tuning into how I am feeling, adjusting pace, my breathing, etc. than visualization. I'm sure it's different for everyone.

I do this a lot. It can be many things, sometimes I try and see myself from the outside, as if in a movie. When I get tired and my form starts to fall apart I think of Paula Radcliff's midsection, sounds weird I know, but it helps me to imagine a nice tight core and usually gets me back on line.

I think of Kara Goucher running tall and that helps me. I like what Jennifer said about Paula and having a tight core.

There's a surgeon I work with who complains that I beat him in a race because I snuck behind him.

I visualize beating him again ;)

I think anything you can do to stop the negative thoughts during a long run is helpful! I break long runs down into smaller runs which gives me a momentary boost as I finish each smaller section!
